The Bootstrap Web Subgroup (aka Web 2.0 Subgroup) is for founders of bootstrap businesses who have an interest in web technology. You don't have to have a web company per se - we all use the web as part of our business. Participation in our monthly meetings and ongoing online conversations is a great way to get and remain knowledgeable about best practices and new technologies. Subject: building effective communities.

Bootstrap Austin will soon launch a new Community Subgroup for bootstrappers who are interested in building contexts for effective communities. We say it that way because you can't really build a community - rather, you create a context or platform, and community emerges. However communities can be more or less effective depending on how they're organized as they emerge, and it's the concepts and practices that support effective community-building that we'll focus on.

Bijoy and I have done some conceptual work in the interest of creating a workshop on effective community-building. Our thinking is organized in documents posted at the Bootstrap Community Google group: http://groups.google.com/group/bootstrap-community

At the Bootstrap Web meeting, I'll talk briefly about the history of web-based communities, then Bijoy and I will lead a discussion about how you can build effective online communities for your business. The discussion will draw quite a bit on our Bootstrap Community work.
